During the Thursday night VP debate Sarah Palin claimed:
“When I and others in the legislature found out that we had some millions of dollars [of Permanent Fund investments] in Sudan, we called for divestment through legislation of those dollars.”
I was immediately suspicious because of her body language and because she said that it wasn’t quite done yet. Thanks yet again to Digg, I was lead to this ABC News report. According to the public record and Alaska legislators that were asked, Palin BLOCKED attempts to divest from Sudanese investments.
“But a search of news clips and transcripts from the first three months of this year did not turn up an instance in which Palin mentioned the Sudanese crisis or concerns about Alaska’s investments tied to the ruling regime. Moreover, Palin’s administration openly opposed the bill, and stated its opposition in a public hearing on the measure.”
Let the record stand. Sarah Palin lied, taking the chance that we wouldn’t check up on her claim. How insulting. Thanks John McCain – you’re presenting an inexperienced outsider who doesn’t even know how to lie. What an asset to your campaign. Way to put Americans first.
